#WildWednesday: Finnegan, an Endangered Channel Island Fox (Video)

If you thought the condors were awesome, meet Finnegan, an endangered Channel Island Fox hand raised and cared for at the Santa Barbara Zoo. The Channel Island Fox was close to extinction with only 14 accounted for on Santa Rosa & San Miguel Island at one point. Now, due to breeding efforts, education and awareness, they are now in the hundreds. Amazing!

Finnegan was hand raised by Santa Barbara Zoo's caring staff .

What led to the Channel Island Fox's "almost" extinction?
Due to pesticide poisoning, the bald eagles who primarily eat fish, started to die off and with less bald eagles, the golden eagles started to migrate into the Channel Islands. The golden eagles started eating foxes by the dozens.
