The Marketplace Effect – Networking with People in Similar Industries

The Emeryville Food Court is one of my favorite — it has literally, anything you can imagine, from crepes, to Middle Eastern food, to Southern home cooking. It is a true "marketplace effect" where people come and have an option to choose from many variables. A marketplace is always more interesting than one location with one choice. With consumer choice, there is shopping involved — people browsing, visiting, sampling, and reviewing.

 

What are you doing to increase your green marketplace effect?

 

You can band with other green professionals to create a "package" deal of items; for example a green wedding package with a photographer, baker, dress designer, and florist. You can offer references to green businesses in your field. For example, as a web designer, we can offer referrals to green printers, green designers, and providers of sustainable custom-logo products. 

 

The "marketplace" effect is beneficial for everyone involved – a consumer has access to many more companies than just your one business, and representatives from each of the companiesl can work together to find clients and provide a more unique and customized experience. You'll see this effect at your local BNI.com or Green Chamber of Commerce, or at pop-up events like farmers markets and underground sustainable choice restaurants.

How can you increase your "marketplace" effect by offering your goods and services in conjunction with someone else's, or in a consortium of providers?
