Santa Monica LEED Platinum Home Open House this Saturday 3/20

I'm Happy to announce this Saturday March 20,2010 the United States Green Building Council and the City of Santa Monica host its annual LEED Platinum Homes Open House Tour from 10am- 3pm.  In one day you'll be able to look inside the greenest homes built in Los Angeles, meet the owners, architects, builders, and network with other green professionals.  I'm excited this year to be a part of the team promoting the tour, the lineup are the following:

  • Living Homes – 2914 Highland Ave.
  • Moss Residence – 2627 30th St. Santa Monica, CA 90405
  • Kanok Residence – 840 Havard St. Santa Monica, CA 90405
  • Boldt Residence – 859 25th St. Santa Monica,CA 90403
  • Cherokee Lofts – 751 n Fairfax Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90046
  • PuncHouse Project 234-  234 Alta Ave. Santa Monica, CA 90403

Parking will be difficult with over 500 people coming.  I encourage everyone to CARPOOL as much as possible.  Or walk. Or ride your bikes (use a U-lock – bike theft has skyrocketed here in the last months).  Here’s a CARPOOL WEBSITE to help:       – post trips if you can offer them or if you need them ( I haven’t used this before and can’t answer any questions about it!) http://www.pickuppal.com/pup/newposting.html?toEventId=919

At each site, someone from the project team (owner/architect) will be there to answer questions.  There will also be docents with nametags available to help.  These docents were not involved on the projects but are generally familiar with green building strategies.   The format of this tour is more of an open house, but the docents and project team will be explaining some of the key elements at each site.  The flyer is attached to this email if you would like to print it out.

LOGISTICS:  At  a few of the sites, you will be asked to sign your name on a liability waiver for the owner’s peace of mind.  If you are not comfortable with this or with any other aspect of the sites, please do  not visit the site.  In general, you are entering these sites at your own risk – some are finished homes and some are still under construction so there may be some trip hazards, stairs, or other construction-related considerations to be aware of.    At least one of the sites will require you to take off your shoes before entering the home.

Out of respect for the homeowners, there will be NO:  eating/drinking, using of bathrooms (plan ahead), pictures, or touching of objects in the home.   The homeowners are inviting you onto their property and they have final say on any and all rules.
