Economic Recovery: Don’t Slam on the Breaks–
Thousands Rally Downtown Los Angeles to Protest H.R.1 – Proposed Federal Cuts –
March 23, 2011

Veterans, environmentalists, service-providers, job-seekers and members of
Congress will be among the thousands to rally in downtown Los Angeles on
Wednesday March 23 against $61 billion in potential federal budget cuts that
could undermine national economic recovery.. The Wednesday rally aims to
convince the Congress that now is not the time to enact drastic cuts like those
envisioned in H.R. 1 that would threaten the economic recovery and produce more
job losses.


The House Appropriations Committee introduced H.R. 1, the Full Year Continuing
Resolution Appropriations Act for 2011 on February 11, 2011. This bill will
result in either deep cuts or elimination of City programs that Los Angeles
relies on to provide a variety of core services including economic development,
public safety, summer youth jobs, workforce training, domestic violence
shelters, homeless shelters and services, and hundred of other critical jobs and

WHAT: To send a message to congressional leaders in Washington DC. Mayor
Villaraigosa will speak at a downtown of at least 2,000 Los Angelinos opposing
HR1 the bill to cut funding for job creation, community and workforce
