DIY Dishwasher Detergent & Rinse – cheap and simple!
 |
Dishwasher detergent:
- 1 cup Borax
- 1 cup Washing Soda (not baking soda)
- 1/4 cup citric acid (1/8 cup if you have soft water)
- 1/4 cup sea salt (1/8 if you have soft water)
- Mix Borax and Washing Soda together and bam! (use 1 tbsp per load)

I think the biggest trick though, is to add a Rinse Aid or your dishes will have a white film on them, so I’ve added that recipe below…
Rinse Aid: (for rinse cycle)
- Add 1/2 – 1 tablespoon white vinegar (amount depends upon hardness of your water)
- 5 drops lemon or wild orange essential oil
- 3 drops tea tree essential oil
You can add essential oils to the vinegar if you want for natural fragrance and antibacterial properties…
The Rinse Aid makes the white film go away & acts as a homemade version of ‘jet dry’ to make them sparkling clean!
