Nutrient Dense Live Food

Thursday, 28 January 2010 09:12 by Imani

The growing movement of awareness around GMOs continues to gain momentum but there is still a lot of work ahead to educate consumers about the reality of the food they are eating. There are many of us, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts that are on watch. We are speaking out from our most inner core – calling others to wake from their chemically induced slumber!

I was thrilled to have an incredible turnout for both the showing of FOOD, Inc and our workshop on Growing Nutrient Dense Foods at our co-op this weekend. It gives me hope that there are others out there that have not been completely numbed by the dead food we are bombarded with. There is an underground movement of farmers, backyard gardeners, educators, social workers and consumers searching out REAL FOOD. A surge of interest will soon result in a new definition of food that is healthy for both people and planet that goes beyond the limited (and now government controlled) standards set for “organic”.

These mineral-dense and vitamin-rich foods are popular in the raw food community because they are found in food that is still alive.Raw Food is food that has not been heated above 115 degrees in order to keeps the enzyme intact – which makes it more digestible and nutritious for us! Enzymes absolutely need to be present for our digestive processes to work. As we get older our enzyme counts decrease so it is even more important to eat healthier food choices for optimum beauty and wellness! More to come on raw foods! Great video. I feel fortunate to live in Peru, where most of the food is grown by small farmers, and I can still buy local poultry at the market. It's one of the reasons I've decided to stay here with my family instead of returning to the US.
