The one-day build event will bring together over 200 Power Women to frame homes for a new 10-home neighborhood in Lynwood aiming for LEED Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The event will take place Saturday, May 16th 8 am to 5 pm at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. Confirmed volunteers include Jennifer Grey, Rachael Harris, Sarah Lancaster, Lisa LoCicero, Catherine O’Hara, KaDee Strickland, Raven-Symone and more.

WHAT: Habitat for Humanity’s 5th Annual “Power Women, Power Tools” Event

WHERE: Sony Pictures Studios Culver City, CA (Parking Pass Required for Access)

WHEN: Saturday, May 16th 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

WHY: “Power Women, Power Tools” joins over 200 women volunteers from all industries to build homes for families in need. This year’s volunteers will be framing walls for use in the construction of 10 new sustainable homes in the City of Lynwood. HFH GLA was recently awarded LEED Silver Certification by the USGBC for 30 homes built in 2007 and is seeking the same for its new Lynwood neighborhood. This invitation-only event helps raise awareness of the affordable housing crisis in Los Angeles (where we rank last in the U.S. for housing affordability.) This year the attendees will be asked to go a step beyond framing walls and advocacy. HFH GLA is challenging volunteers to raise money for a Women Build home that will break ground during next year’s “Power Women, Power Tools” event.

Some great ladies will be offering their "womanpower" including: Sarah Carter, Jennifer Grey, Rachael Harris, Sarah Lancaster, Lisa LoCicero, Catherine O' Hara, KaDee Strickland, Raven Symone and more. Attendees also include Power Women in government, business and faith-based organizations.

Beyond framing walls, this event educates women about Los Angeles' affordable housing crisis empower them to do something about it. Habitat for Humanity president/CEO will challenge the volunteers to help put an end to substandard housing by raising the $150,000 needed for an "all woman build" home that will break ground at next year's "Power Women, Power Tools" event.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER LOS ANGELES strives to eliminate poverty housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families in need to build simple, decent affordable housing. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built nearly 500 homes nationally and internationally, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. For more information, visit http://www.habitatla.org
