We use to do the exact same thing in the 70's and 80's except we made the skirt length a bit longer. We also took full-length jeans and cut open the inside leg seams, added a triangle gusset in the front and back to have a full length jean skirt. The one angle though we never wanted to do was to make the skirts look like those of the streetwalkers in Hollywood or off the piers in NYC or Times Square. Of course Times Square is no longer the place for the hookers since it's changed. The last thing we ever wanted to be known for was the look of a hooker,so we made whatever we remade didn't mimic the hooker. It was the same when we made cut-off shorts from our jeans.
