Video: Chad Lowe Plunges In to Save Our Surf

Project Save Our Surf 2010 had many great people involved. The organization is lead by Tanna Frederick and supported by celebrity friends with deep appreciation for our oceans.  Chad Lowe is an actor, surfer, activist and ocean lover who participated in this huge event that brought over 5,000 spectators and surfers to the beach.


We grabbed Chad right after his surf session and dug a little deeper on his involvement with PSOS, his outlook on the BP oil spill & his appreciation for our oceans.

Project SOS Founder, Tanna Frederick Shreds to Save Our Ocean

It was an impressive scene at Huntington Beach's Southside Pier for Tanna Frederick's Project Save Our Surf 24-hour Surf-a-thon. 5,000 beach goers made up of environmentalist, surfers, celebrities & ocean lovers lined the sands and enjoyed the beautiful waters of Huntington Beach.

Tanna Frederick is an avid Surfer, actress, writer, producer and environmentalist. Tanna founded both Project Save Our Surf and the Iowa Film Festival in 2008 and works tirelessly to bring the entertainment and surfing industries together in support of clean oceans. Her recent acting work includes receiving glowing reviews for her starring role in the long-running stage play "Just 45 Minutes from Broadway" as well as starring roles in Henry Jaglom's feature films "Hollywood Dreams", "Irene in Time" and the soon to be released "Queen of the Lot".

Project Save Our Surf: SURF 24 - June 19th & 20th

Project Save Our Surf: SURF 24,’ a two-day festival of surfing, music, film and community celebrating International Surfing Day June 19th-20th , Huntington Beach, California

WHO: World champion surfers Shaun Tomson and Peter ‘PT’ Townend join Project Save Our Surf founder/actress Tanna Frederick when they co- host the Third Annual Project SOS: SURF 24 a 24-hour surfathon to benefit Surfrider Foundation, Heal the Bay and Inside the Outdoors.

 


Celebrity surfers include Sam Trammel (True Blood), Dylan Bruno (Numb3rs), Jesse Spencer (House), Sean Patrick Flanery (Boondock Saints), Chad Lowe (24), Michael Munoz (Amazing Race), Eric Balfour (24), Brandon Boyd (Incubus), David Chokachi (Beyond the Break), Gregory Harrison (Trapper John, MD), Chris Bruno (Dead Zone) and Kathy Zuckerman (Gidget).
 

Surf luminaries participating include James Pribram, Matt Beacham, Mary Osborne, Angie Reno and Jon Rose (more names to be added.)
 

WHAT: Recreational surfers will be joined by pro- surfers and celebrities from TV and film as they compete to put up the best wave each hour from 12 noon Saturday, June 19th to 12 noon Sunday, June 20th. One surfer will receive the “SURF 24 Surfer of the Year” trophy.
 

On June 19th, opening ceremonies begin at 11 am with beach daytime events for the whole family including live music (Keaton Simons, Human Lab, ACIDIC and Common Sense), mural painting with Joanne “Art Miles” Tawfilis, guest speakers including Ed Begley Jr., food and beverage, volleyball, yoga and eco-friendly vendors.


At 8:30 pm a surf-film program will feature special appearances from cast and creators of “North Shore,” “Bustin’ Down the Door” and “The Cove.”

On June 20th, there will be a beach breakfast at 8 am (by donation), silent and live auctions and the presentation of the "Friends of the Ocean" award ceremony prior to closing ceremonies.
 

WHEN: 11 am on Saturday, June 19th - 12 noon on Sunday, June 20th
 

WHERE: Southside Huntington Beach Pier, Huntington Beach, CA
 

WHY: Project SOS: SURF 24 coincides with International Surfing Day, which was established by Surfrider Foundation and Surfing Magazine to celebrate the sport of surfing and to promote clean water and clean oceans.

Project SAVE OUR SURF Raises Over $40,000 For OCEANA

The first annual Project Save Our Surf, co-hosted by actress Tanna Frederick and world-renowned surfer Shaun Tomson which was held April 5th in Santa Monica, raised over $40,000 for the non-profit group OCEANA. Celebrities such as Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm), David Chokachi (Baywatch), Eric Balfour (24) and Gregory Harrison (Trapper John MD) joined professional surfers Rob Machado, James Pribram, Jeremy Sherwin, Alex Gray, David O'Donnell, Chris Rydell, Jon Rose, Peter “P.T.” Townend and Frank Caronna in surf competitions during the day.

An evening gala hosted by Noah Wyle (ER) and director Henry Jaglom was attended by Elliot Gould, Judd Nelson, David Proval (The Sopranos), and Justine Pasek (Miss Universe 2002) in addition to the surfers listed above. At the gala, Rob Machado received the Project Save Our Surf award for his dedication to environmental activism in Southern California, and Billabong CEO Paul Naudé recieved the Oceana Sea Friend Award for his outstanding contributions to ocean conservation. The gala featured a performance by Tom Curran and Timmy Curran as well as an auction, where items including a surf lesson with Rob Machado, a guitar signed by Brandon Boyd of the band Incubus, and a role in an upcoming Henry Jaglom film were up for bid.
